COMPETITION!

Competition was a great success. Everyone had a ton of fun, and we are proud to be the winners of the 2014 Entrepreneurship Award! But more importantly, this FRC season, our team learned so much, everything from applying for grants to learning how to use all the tools in our workshop. Since our previous experience is nonexistent, we were starting from scratch, and we learned a lot along the way. Our organization skills have vastly improved and we have learned that deadlines may seem far away but approach swiftly. We discovered the importance of good documentation, and made the effort not only to document our own stuff, but also creating documentation to help others, such as the RobotPy documentation. We learned that you must fundraise to be able to do anything, how to write a business plan, and how to work on a tight budget. We also found that there are better ways to write for a grant, and that talking to someone isn’t actually that easy. We had to research extensively trying to find sponsors for our team. We learned about design, and important lessons such as the limitations of motors and that giant expanding nets are very hard. We learned CAD software, 3D printing, electronics, pneumatics, and how to work with metal. We gained confidence in our abilities and taught each other. We learned how to be a team.
